Moray Tax Help Ltd is a tax advisory company based in Elgin that was set up by its directors Moira and Ewan Edwards.

Both directors have extensive experience in tax with long careers of more than 30 years progressing to senior HMRC Tax Inspectors. Since 2017, they have been working within the private sector as both employee’s and as a partnership, with the latter offering both tax and accountancy services.

​

Both directors concluded they have the skill set and knowledge in tax to be effective and help individuals and businesses that have unfortunately become the unwanted focus of HMRC’s attention. They therefore decided to focus their services on tax as their core business and passed their accountancy business to Goldwells, an established reputable accountancy firm operating across the north of Scotland.

With a period of employment following the partnership change, Moira and Ewan set up the company in 2023 to offer services in the areas that they excel.

The directors find it particularly satisfying to help those in need of it when faced with HMRC’s extensive range of legal powers.

The company is currently adding to its increasing client base, with the intention to remain a small practice focused on quality and a personalised service in preference to quantity.

Moira’s vast HMRC experience includes advising newly established businesses on compliance matters and how to stay on the right side of tax rules and regulations. Latterly her role was as a senior manager directing and supervising a team of around 15 tax inspectors conducting investigations in Income tax, Corporation tax, VAT and Employer related issues throughout the North of Scotland. A role that was not for the faint hearted!

Ewan's role with HMRC was that of a technically trained and qualified senior leader. Following a secondment in policy he returned to his favoured role of conducting high end investigation work within the UK’s SME sector leading multi disciplined investigation teams across Corporation Tax, VAT, Employer Compliance and the income tax of directors and wealthy individuals. COP9 experience defending against HMRC was gained within the private sector.

In addition to the knowledge and insight gained from working within HMRC, the directors’ technical knowledge is at a high level with added experience gained in providing advice in a wide range of areas of tax in both their self-employed and employee positions.​
